Justine DeMetrick

A Rhode Island native, Justine grew up by the sea. She got her first camera at the age of 3 in 1974. As a teenager living in Newport, she found the punk-hardcore-indie music scene of the 1980's. After going to countless shows in Newport, Boston, Providence, and greater New England, she started taking her camera with her around 1987. Venues like TT The Bear's, Lupo's, and the Blue Pelican were her playground.

Moving to NYC in 1989 to attend SVA, Justine immersed herself even further in the DIY music scene. From the birth of ABC-No-Rio and basement shows at Hiltz's house, she primarily shot bands in NYC and Jersey, but she'd get in the van from Maine to DC to Cali when the opportunity arose. Spots such as CBGB's, the Rat, Maxwell's, Middlesex plus long forgotten VFW's, basements, and backyards were the setting for many bills.

It was during the early 90's that she published 3 issues of "Intermission" photozine. A much sought-after piece of punk-hardcore history, the photocopied 'zine featured band photos crammed onto small pages.

By the late 90's, Justine moved back to RI, and stopped shooting live bands.

Justine currently lives back by the ocean (well, so does everyone else in RI). She'd love to hear from you!
